Tanka Poetry

 

Tanka is a Japanese form of poetry made up of five lines with a syllable count of 5, 7, 5, 7, 7.  Modern poets have chosen to interpret that as short, long, short, long, long with no specific syllable count per line.  Here is an example from the book shown above:
