Help with Placing a Hold

As a Library user you have access to all materials held by the Stockton - San Joaquin County Public Library. You also have access to a large number of items available through our participation in the Link+ system.

Placing holds within Stockton - San Joaquin County

As you search the Library Catalog, many titles you wish to borrow might be checked out and/or otherwise unavailable at your local branch. In that case you can place a hold on an item (book, CD, DVD, etc.) from any of our other branches. The Library will send a courtesy notification when the item you have requested is available. You may also place a hold on items located at other Stockton - San Joaquin County Public Library branches - even if they're checked out!

To place an item on hold:

  1. Identify the item you wish to request by looking up a title, author, or subject in the Library Catalog.
  2. Click on the title link to open the item details.
  3. Click the Place Hold link, located in the left sidebar beneath an image of the item you wish to request.
  4. Login using your library card number and PIN if you have not already done so.
  5. Select the branch location where you would like to pick up your hold.
  6. The expiration date field is always set one year from the date of request and does not need input.
  7. You have the option to suspend your hold if you wish. This is necessary in the event you will be away from the branch for an extended period and do not want your hold to arrive during this time. If you do not have any such restrictions you may leave the Suspend and Unsuspend fields blank.
  8. Click the Place Hold button on the lower left portion of the screen.

You will receive a courtesy notice when your hold arrives at the branch you selected. Items remain available for 10 days. The Library adds a restocking fee of $1 per item to your account if holds are not picked up during this time.
